SUMMARY:White Lake Weather Station Tour - CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:The White Lake Weather Station has CANCELLED the tour\, due to COVID-19.\n\nTour an active Weather Station!\nThe radar and weather balloon telemetry towers at White Lake Station. \nDid you know there is a weather station in Oakland County?  The White Lake station is one of only 92 stations in North America\, which launches two weather balloons daily.  As astronomers\, we often reference weather data for planning purposes\, but few of us may realize where the data comes from.  A big part of weather forecasting depends on accurate wind velocity and temperature measurements of all the layers of the atmosphere.  Club members are invited to join in an exclusive tour of the White Lake Weather Station and watch a real weather balloon launch! \nMembers Only Event\nThis event is for GMAC members only\, but it’s never too late to purchase a membership!  Please visit our Membership Page for more information on benefits and pricing.  Don’t forget\, as a member of GMAC\, all individuals in your household can attend as well. \nGet your Tickets in the Online Store \nImportant Information!\nThe U.S. Government operates the station and they require additional paperwork for non-U.S. citizens.  If you are not a U.S. citizen\, please contact us at least three weeks before the event\, to ensure your participation.  Also\, the tour size for this event is limited\, so please email Jim Goodall and reserve your spot!

SUMMARY:McMath-Hulbert Solar Observatory Tour
DESCRIPTION:Exclusive Tour of a Once World-Class Observatory\nGMAC members inspect the coelostat\, during the tour of Tower 2 \nJoin us for an exclusive tour of the McMath–Hulbert Observatory\, located in Lake Angelus\, Michigan.  Jim Shedlowsky\, of the Warren Astronomical Society\, will lead a small group through the historic building\, sharing inside knowledge and stories along the way.  The tour begins at 10 AM\, and will be completed by noon.  Space on the tour is limited\, so if you are interested in attending\, please email Jim Goodall to reserve your spot. \nThe McMath–Hulbert Observatory\, was founded in 1930 by three amateur astronomers\, Francis McMath\, his son Robert McMath\, and Henry Hulbert\, with the goal of enhancing their clever development of time lapse astrophotography for outreach purposes. It soon garnered the interests of the University of Michigan and evolved into a world-class solar observatory\, operated by the U of M through 1979. It is now in private ownership\, nonfunctional\, but largely intact. \n  \n\n\nTour Details\nTHIS TOUR IS FULL\nClub membership is required for this tour\, and may be purchased through our Online Store.   For safety and accessibility reasons\, this tour is not recommmended for  children under the age of 8 or persons with reduced mobility. \nFor a detailed review of last year’s tour\, be sure to visit the  McMath-Hulbert Observatory Debriefing page. \nDirections (Please Read)\nThe observatory is located at 895 N. Lake Angelus Rd.  in Lake Angelus\, Michigan.  The entrance road can be confusing\, so it is recommended to approach the observatory from Baldwin Rd and look for the small sign on the left hand side.  There is a second entrance road that Google prefers (with no sign)\, but it is not recommended to take this route.

SUMMARY:McMath-Hulbert Solar Observatory Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exclusive tour of the McMath – Hulbert solar observatory\, located in Lake Angelus\, Michigan.  Jim Shedlowsky\, of the Warren Astronomical Society\, will lead a small group through the historic building\, sharing inside knowledge and stories along the way.  The tour begins at 10 AM and will be completed by noon.  Space on the tour is limited\, so if you are interested in attending\, please email Jim Goodall to reserve your spot. \nThe McMath – Hulbert Solar Observatory\, was founded in 1930 by three amateur astronomers\, Francis McMath\, his son Robert McMath\, and Henry Hulbert\, with the goal of enhancing their clever development of time lapse astrophotography\, for outreach purposes. It soon garnered the interests of the University of Michigan and evolved into a world-class solar observatory\, operated by the U of M through 1979. It is now in private ownership\, nonfunctional\, but largely intact. \nClub membership is required for this tour\, and may be purchased through our Online Store.   For safety and accessibility reasons\, this tour is not recommmended for persons with reduced mobility or children under the age of 10. \nFacebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/217220272256636/
